Minimum reinforcement

About the program

Reference: NS-EN 1992-1-1:2004+A1+NA

User manual: User manual coming soon.

Minimum reinforcement calculates required minimum reinforcement for selected structural members.

The calculations are based on the minimum reinforcement requirements in accordance with NS-EN 1992-1-1:2004+A1+NA Eurocode 2 Design of concrete structures.

Selected structural members:

  • Inner wall
  • Outer wall
  • Watertight wall
  • One-way slab
  • Two-way slab
  • Watertight slab
  • Ground slab
  • Pad footing
  • Strip footing

Typical use case: Calculation of minimum reinforcement for slabs, walls and footings per Eurocode 2.

Key formulas

Mean tensile strength

fctm=0,30fck(2/3)C50/60f_{ctm} = 0{,}30 \cdot f_{ck}^{(2/3)} \leq C50/60
fckf_{ck}Characteristic cylinder compressive strength
fctmf_{ctm}Mean axial tensile strength

Inputs

  • Structural member (slab, wall, footing, floor)
  • Concrete quality and cylinder strength, fck (N/mm²)
  • Thickness, T (mm) and cover, cnom (mm)
  • Characteristic yield strength, fyk (N/mm²)

Outputs

  • Minimum reinforcement, As,min main (mm²/m)
  • Minimum reinforcement, As,min distribution (mm²/m)
  • Min. vertical/horizontal reinforcement per side (walls)
  • Maximum bar spacing, smax (mm)

Assumptions

  • Minimum reinforcement per NS-EN 1992-1-1:2004+A1+NA
  • Width bt = 1000 mm per running metre
  • Internal lever arm: d = T minus (cnom + diameter/2)
